Suicide Bereavement Group – Safehaven

RCC 20 – Suicide Bereavement Group – Safe Haven
Proposer: Esther Smith
Funding allocated: £4,460.00

The Proposal

This is a group of four volunteers who have been personally affected by loss by suicide. The group was awarded £4,460 from the RCC fund to set up a telephone helpline and website.

So far the group has a brand and identity for the service which is not provided elsewhere, a partially built website and a telephone line and telephones. Because the group are all volunteers working full time elsewhere and have experienced some personal difficulties the progress has been slow. There has been no contact with the group since October 2015 but the idea remains a sound one and the infrastructure and ground work has been done.

Sustainability

Attempts have been made to broaden the membership of the group to include CRUSE bereavement services and to take off some of the personal pressures dealing with suicide anniversaries. This has been resisted by the Safe Haven group so far but we would like to pick this up again at a point in time that is less emotive.
